Quick Overview

  • IHG has two major credit card transfer partners: Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards.
  • Chase points transfer to IHG at a 1:1 rate—1,000 Chase points equals 1,000 IHG points when using Chase's travel credit cards.
  • Bilt Rewards also offers 1:1 transfers, meaning 1,000 Bilt points convert into 1,000 IHG points.
  • Transferring points from Chase or Bilt to IHG yields an average value of 0.6 cents per point, significantly lower than the potential 2+ cents per point with their native redemptions.
  • Despite IHG's partnerships, the fastest way to earn IHG points is through their co-branded credit cards, offering higher earning rates and exclusive benefits.

Chase Ultimate Rewards credit cards

Chase offers three Ultimate Rewards credit cards that let you transfer points to IHG One Rewards at a 1:1 rate—1,000 Chase points equals 1,000 IHG points.

While Chase Ultimate Rewards points are typically worth 1.25 to 1.5 cents each when redeemed through Chase Travel, converting them to IHG points may lead to a significant value reduction. In most cases, booking IHG stays through Chase’s travel portal provides better value.

However, Chase's Ultimate Rewards credit cards are still a great option for earning transferable points. They’re particularly useful for topping off your IHG account when you’re close to a redemption.

Bilt Rewards credit cards

The Bilt Rewards program stands out for allowing you to pay rent and mortgages with the Bilt Mastercard, without incurring transaction fees—a unique feature among top credit cards.

However, transferring Bilt points to IHG isn’t the best value proposition. Bilt points can be redeemed for higher value when used for travel, home down payments, or be transferred to a variety of other hotel and airline loyalty programs.

That said, Bilt remains a great backup option for topping off your IHG One Rewards account when needed.

AMEX Membership Rewards credit cards

American Express Membership Rewards is not a direct transfer partner of IHG, but you can still transfer points indirectly through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

You can convert Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic at a 1:1 rate, and then transfer Virgin points to IHG at a 1:1 rate. This results in an effective 1:1 conversion—1,000 AMEX points become 1,000 IHG points after both transfers.

While AMEX points can be worth 1 cent or more for travel booked via AMEX, or even 2+ cents when transferred to top airline partners, converting them to IHG typically offers less value. It’s a strategy best reserved for topping off your IHG account when a high-value redemption is in sight.

Citi ThankYou Rewards credit cards

Citi ThankYou Rewards is not a direct transfer partner of IHG, but you can still convert points to IHG One Rewards via Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, similar to AMEX.

ThankYou points earned with premium Citi cards like the Citi Strata Premier or Citi Prestige can be transferred to Virgin Atlantic at a 1:1 rate. From there, Virgin points can be converted to IHG points at a 1:1 rate. This effectively gives you a 1:1 transfer—1,000 Citi ThankYou points become 1,000 IHG points after both transfers.

While Citi ThankYou points can yield higher value (1–2+ cents) with select partners, transferring to IHG typically reduces that value. It’s a viable option if you’re a few points shy of a redemption or need to quickly top off your IHG account.

Calculator Options

Year 1 or Year 2+?

Year 1 - Calculate how much you will earn in your first year of being a cardmember. Includes Intro Bonuses (if toggled on) and will use the free or reduced first year annual fees for any cards that have them.

Year 2+ - Calculate how much the card will be worth the 2nd year and onward. Automatically turns off intro bonuses and will ignore first year free/reduced annual fees.

Include Intro Bonuses?

If set to yes, intro bonuses will be included for a card's calculation ONLY IF you have met the monthly spend criteria based on what's entered into the tool.

Note: We do not have intro bonuses for all credit cards (mainly partners and popular credit cards), and we cannot calculate intro bonuses for some cards due to the complexity of some spend requirements.

Authorized Users

Some banks charge an additional fee to add family, friends, or employees to the credit card account. If you plan on adding authorized users to your credit card(s), you can enter that amount here.

Note: Some credit cards have a cap on how many authorized users you can add. While we do keep track of the fee structures, we do not keep track of caps. So be sure to check the rates and fees before applying.

Max of 100.
Calculate Foreign Transaction Fees?

Many cards will charge you a foreign transaction fee when making purchases in a foreign currency. This is typically between 2.5% and 3% for most credit cards.

If set to yes, we will calculate the estimated fee for any spend entered into the calculator that is considered foreign. This amount will appear in the calculations as well.

Note: We do not have the foreign transaction fee rates for all credit cards.
