How IHG base points are calculated
IHG Rewards members earn 10 IHG Points for every $1 USD spent at most IHG hotels and 5 IHG Points per $1 USD spent at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.
Base points are earned on the base rate of the hotel. You will not earn base points on taxes, fees, and other surcharges.

How IHG elite points are calculated
IHG elite status is based on nights stayed or base points earned at IHG hotels. Nights and base points can be earned when booking your stay directly through IHG.
IHG elite status comes with many benefits and amongst those benefits are bonus points per $1 spent when staying at IHG brand hotels.
Based on your tier in the IHG One Rewards program, you can earn up to a 100% point bonus on the base earning rate which is 10 points per $1 spent at most IHG hotels.

How IHG credit card points are calculated
The last piece of the puzzle to maximizing your IHG Rewards Points comes with using an IHG credit card. IHG offers three credit cards that can earn you bonus points spending with IHG as well as on other purchases.
Unlike base points and elite status points, IHG credit cards will earn IHG points on the full cost of your stay, including taxes and fees. Points earned with post to your account after the billing statement ends, so be aware that they will not post after your stay.
A big plus for the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card and IHG Rewards Premier Business Credit Card is that they offer complimentary IHG Platinum Elite Status which earns you a 60% bonus without meeting the stay or base point requirement.
So you'll automatically be earning a total of up to 26 points per $1 spent at IHG Hotels and Resorts for just being a cardholder! That's 10 points using the card, a bonus of 6 points for elite status, and up to 10 base points.
