The American Express Gold Card earns Membership Rewards points at the following rates:

  • 2 points for every $1 spent on travel, including flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, and more.
  • 2 points for every $1 spent on eligible gas, grocery and drugstore purchases in Canada.
  • 1 point for every $1 spent on everything else.
  • 1 additional point per $1 spent on eligible hotel or car rental bookings made through AMEX Travel Online.
